Sandy Cinema

“A movie theater.” That was the number one request made by Sandy, Oregon residents when asked “What would you most like your city to add?” in a City survey.

At the request of the City of Sandy’s Mayor & city manager, Prestige Development responded to an important community need by developing the eight-screen Sandy Cinema, which has eight screens with 3D and 826 reclining, stadium-style seats. The theater is part of the Pioneer Park development, adjacent to busy Highway 26 at Champion Way, two miles west of Sandy’s City Center.

More than 19,000 people live within five miles and 119,000 live within a ten-mile radius of the cinema, which includes bronze sculptures of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis by sculptor Jim Demetro.

Before the theater’s development in 2002, local residents traveled 11 miles or more to Gresham for movie entertainment. Now they turn to Sandy Cinema 8 for films and a social gathering place at the Pioneer Park development, which includes Smoky Hearth Pizza. The community’s desire for a movie theater spurred much more development.
